SINGAPORE, January 17, 2010: Hundreds of devotees descended on the Sri Murugan Hill Temple at Upper Bukit Timah Road on Sunday as the 52-year-old shrine celebrated its consecration ceremony following a two-year facelift. The ritual, called the Maha Kumbabishegam, is conducted every 12 years to strengthen the powers of the temple’s deities.
Temple president Eswary Nagalinggam said a total of $2.5 million was spent to spruce up the temple. Among the work done was the installation of a lift for the disabled and elderly, and the addition of deity Annapurna, the Goddess of food and cooking, which was requested by devotees.
